Bluetooth Attacks

April 5th, 2005

You learn something new everyday! Yahoo Tech Tuesday has a nice feature article on bluetooth hacking or bluetooth attack.

Bluetooth on cell phones and other electronics devices can be used to swap business cards and photos, but it also can be used to pilfer data.

Bluesnarfing: The practice of using a Bluetooth connection to get access to someone else’s phone.

Bluejacking: Using the Bluetooth “pairing” feature to gain access to someone else’s phone.

Blue sniping: Picking up a Bluetooth signal from up to a mile away, and scanning the phone for data.

The last one seems pretty scarry. For those people who are driving the Lexus, you better turn off (or just disable) the on-board bluetooth functionality in your car before taking off.:-) Maybe it is time for wireless USB.
