Mobile Answers by GuruNet

GuruNet Corp has rolled out a beta of its mobile answers service at http://mobile.answers.com.
The service is a mobile version of its full answers.com search interface. Any high end mobile device (smartphone, PDA) that is capable of web-browsing will be able to use the service. For example, using PocketIE on a Dell Axim X5 that runs Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003, you will get the following interface to do your mobile search.
Since answers.com only provides reference content such as word definitions, encyclopedia entries and other facts, it may need some clever marketing to make it a commercially viable service. (I guess there is nothing wrong with embedding a link in the search results that takes you to an e-retailer’s website where you can buy the PalmOne Treo 650 as shown in the above example). That’s not an issue with Google SMS (GOOGL) or Yahoo! Mobile, which is tied to “searching for profit” while at the same time provides a valuable service to consumers.
