No Media Player on Nokia Phones, Yet

February 18th, 2005

Just so you know: A spokesman from Nokia clarified that Microsoft’s player would not be installed on any of the vendor’s product but rather that Nokia’s own system would be modified to allow the playback of audio files based on Microsoft’s technology. The spokesman said there had been no discussions about Nokia handset featuring Windows Mobile, another speculation that arose from the coverage of the press conference. However, the two companies have agreed to collaborate on digital media format support including the OMA’s DRM and the MPEG Advanced Auto Coding.

Now Symbian fans and developers can rest assured a little.
