100 Nextel Partner Wireless Retail Stores in 2005

March 20th, 2005

Nextel Partners, Inc. on 03/14/05 announced plans to build on the success of its company-owned stores by opening at least 40 new locations in 2005. The company opened 33 stores in 2004, bringing the total to 73 by year end.

So this news suggests that Nextel Partners is generally optimistic about the wireless retail business. Other wireless carriers seem to share the same optimism going forward. By the way, Nextel Partners ended 2004 with 1.6 million customers, probably about 3% of the total US market.

Maybe wireless retail is where business investment is picking up significantly in coming years. Considering that the decision of buying a high-end Nextel phone plus its high-value data service plan these days cannot be taken lightly. Customers want to have a touch-and-feel experience before making a phone purchase. Opening retail stores seems a logic strategy to me. Just like Apple Computer, which is opening stores nationwide for its wares.
