Wireless Music To Your Ears

March 15th, 2005

The 2005 CTIA Wireless show had a lot of buzz around mobile entertainment, especially around wireless music and mobile video.

Sprint PCS Vision

Sprint PCS added music video ringers to an impressive line-up of downloadable ringers available to Sprint PCS Vision customers. The new ringers are available for $3 initially only on the Sanyo MM-5600 phone. Customers can identify callers with clips of the latest music videos by Crime Mob, Big & Rich, T.I. and more from Warner Music Group.

Mforma Group Ventures into Mobile Music

The mobile games publisher is teaming up with music-industry magazine Billboard to provide news, artist information and a music storefront to North American wireless users. Billboard Mobile, scheduled to launch next month, will offer free access to charts and a storefront selling ringtones, full-track downloads and CDs; a premium service will include more detailed offerings including reviews, concert information, trivia and games.

Melodeo Music Delivery

The Seattle software developer Melodeo has been developing its own delivery platform for mobile phones and PCs, which puts them in direct competition with the planned Microsoft/Nokia/Loudeye service. Melodeo’s service can deliver tunes to both a handset and a computer at once. The platform first launched in December through Spanish operator Telefonica Moviles Espana.
